FAQ: Policy on Extensions of Deadlines for Assessments

An important part of your training is to work to deadlines and for this reason we expect you to adhere strictly to assessment deadlines.

Please note that it is your responsibility to make sure that you are aware of submission deadlines and to plan accordingly.

If you find that you are having a problem completing a piece of work because you do not understand what you are required to do, or because you are having problems organising yourself, then go and see the Lecturer or contact ALA Admin well before the submission date so that they can help you to solve the problem.

If you are unable to meet a submission deadline for good reasons (as explained below), you may submit your work up to two weeks after the deadline, along with documentary evidence as to why you have missed the deadline.

The ALA Examination Board will decide whether of not your work shall be accepted (with or without penalty).

The only admissible reasons for submitting work later are:

  • Serious personal illness with a doctor’s certificate (a self-certified medical note will not be accepted)
  • The death of a relative or close friend
  • Serious family problems, such as divorce, separation, eviction or serious medical circumstances
  • Other reasons will be accepted only in extreme circumstances.

Examples of unacceptable reasons for failing to submit work on time and for which a mark of zero may be awarded include:

  • Paid employment
  • Having exams
  • Having other work to do
  • Not having access to a computer (please ensure you have computer access prior to attempting this course)
  • Being on holiday
  • Not being able to find any books on the subject

The ALA Examination Board will consider all late submissions at its meetings (a late submission is defined as being work submitted after the 10pm deadline on the appropriate submission date).

Following these meetings, if the evidence submitted and documentation does not show that unforeseen and uncontrollable extenuating circumstances were present for the days claimed, students who submitted work late shall be informed whether or not their marks have been reduced to zero, or whether they have been awarded a mark based on the normal reduction in marks for a late assignment (as per the subject outline, assignment brief, or policy).

FAQs: Absence From Exams / Inability to Complete Assessments

If you are absent from an exam you must inform The Australian Logistics Academy in writing the reasons for your absence as soon as possible and in any case prior to the examination, supplying medical evidence where relevant. If you do not do so, or if your absence is not accepted, you will not be allowed a re-sit examination in that paper. You may normally re-sit on the next occasion the module is examined in the following session, and you will incur the cost of the re-attempt of the subject.

Please note that the following are not acceptable reasons for failing to attend an examination/submit an assessment:

  • Paid employment
  • Having other work to do
  • Being on holiday

Any absences must be addressed within 2 weeks of the examination/assessment period.

FAQ: Diploma Printing
