Electronic Office Policy

On 1st Jan, 2000, the Australian Logistics Academy undertook its Electronic Office Policy. Rapid advances in technology and the growth of the Internet make it possible for organisations like the ALA to provide a communication network without limiting the capability of volunteers, consultants and staff to do their required tasks.Working on the LaptopWith this in mind, the ALA have implemented the following electronic office solutions to keep their members and personnel ‘wired’ to the organisation, to each other while moving wherever their drive takes them!

  • Switching our fax number to a service that delivers faxes sent to a central number to an electronic mailbox for distribution to personnel. Our ATPs have felt some growing pains with this, however the new number has resulted in faxes being received by our travelling force wherever they may be.
  • Encourage communications through emails. Due to the increase in overseas clients and programmes over the last two years, email use has been encouraged to reduce telecommunications costs. These costs in a mobile workforce are usually incurred through cellular phone usage, which, while decreasing over time, is still not at practical level for frequent overseas communications. This has been very successful and popular with students, ATPs and members alike.
  • Use of internet to distribute information to all parties involved with the ALA. This has been a longer time coming, with much discussion as to what should be available over the internet. While our site has had a face-lift, more services will be rapidly available over the next month to ensure that information distribution is the best that it can be. These will include:
    • Lecture note distribution through password-protected sites.
    • Membership application on-line.
    • ATP information distributed on-line.
    • Mailing lists for students who have access to email.

The Academy is always looking for new ways to distribute information and make it possible for members to communicate with each other. If you have any suggestions for ways that this could be possible, please email info@aust-logistics.com.
